A List of Resources to Find Your Lost Pet FAST!

Your heart is racing, you get anxious, nervous once your beloved pet goes missing. This uneasy feeling of not knowing how they are doing out there without your care and love increases each day of their absence.  However, there is a lot you can do to find your pet! We have a list of suggestions that will help reunite you with your furry friend. Most important, ensure your pet is microchipped or tattooed, act fast and be sure you already have recent photos of your pet.

1. Create a Lost Pet Poster

You can easily create a poster with Microsoft Word (they already have templates for this) or find templates online. Make sure you include as much information as you can about your pet (any remarkable characteristics) and also your contact information. Print and distribute this flyer around your neighborhood or local businesses. Extra Helpful Tip: Use clear plastic sheet covers and tape the opening seal so they last longer outdoors with sun and rain!

       2. Visit Local Shelters

Your pet might have been rescued by a kind Samaritan and taken to a local shelter. Make sure you visit local shelters in your area and file a lost pet report so if they rescue him/her they can easily return him/her to you. Be sure to bring a photo of your pet! Print several copies and flyers.

      3. Post Online

The first option is still plausible but in these days, the internet is easier and the faster way to get the word out there about your missing pet. There are many websites dedicated to find lost pets. Here are some we recommend:

• Craiglist: You can post your ad for free in the Craigslist website for your city.
• Local Facebook Groups: This one is one of the most recommended options. People spend a lot of time on Facebook and they are many local Facebook Groups that help find missing pets. We can recommend https://www.facebook.com/missingpetsusa
• Fido Finder: Here you can create a profile and post your missing dog or if you found a dog post the information there to help find the owner. They are available in USA, Canada and UK.

Microchip Month is Here!

  Have You Microchipped Your Pet?

In conjunction with Microchip Month in June, Found Animals Foundation is stressing the importance of registering your pet’s microchip for free at Found.org to help get more lost pets back home. In support of Found Animals’ initiative, the City of Los Angeles has declared June 21, 2013 as ‘Microchip Day.’

The Found Animals Registry is revolutionizing the way lost pets are reunited with their families through automated Found Pet Alerts. The automated Found Pet Alerts enable humane organizations to contact the pet owner through phone, email and text messages, with information on how to pick up the lost pet. The alerts will continue for up to four days, unless the pet is retrieved sooner. The registry is free and offers the fully automated alert system for reuniting pets with their families.

One in every three pets is lost in its lifetime. In the past five years alone, more than 3 million lost cats and more than 760,000 lost dogs were never reunited with their owners. Through its initiatives in June, Found Animals aims to show pet owners that a microchip itself isn't enough – microchips must be registered, and contact information kept current, to increase the chances of being reunited with a lost pet.

“Lost pets and families are more likely to be reunited when microchips are registered and contact info is up to date,” said Found Animals Executive Director Aimee Gilbreath. “We are dedicated to finding the simplest, most straightforward solution to make that happen.”

In celebration of Microchip Month, throughout the month of June, several Los Angeles-area partners will offer microchipping at a discounted rate of $10 per pet. These include Adopt & Shop, Angel Dogs Foundation, Spay-4-LA, SNP LA and FixNation. Along with the discount microchip, pet owners will also receive free lifetime registration in our Found.org registry.

In addition to the free online registry, Found Animals provides low-cost microchips and scanners to shelters, clinics and veterinarians across the country, all in an effort to make microchipping, registering animals and reuniting lost pets with their families faster and easier than ever before.
